About
Clinical Practice
I am a dual-accredited Consultant in Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases at the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust, where I advise clinicians on infection diagnosis, treatment and control. I also manage a clinic for patients with respiratory infections caused by tuberculosis (TB) and non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM). I hold leadership roles in infection prevention and laboratory governance, where I help multidisciplinary teams assess and respond to infection-related risk in the healthcare setting.Academic and Research Background
I hold a PhD in Medical Microbiology from Queen's University Belfast and completed a research fellowship at Colorado State University (USA) in laboratory models of respiratory infection. I am an Honorary Lecturer in Medical Microbiology at Queen's University Belfast. While I practise across the breadth of clinical microbiology, my research focuses on evaluating new diagnostic and treatment strategies for mycobacterial infections.Expert Witness Approach
My approach integrates the clinical history, microbiological findings and published evidence to provide independent opinions on causation and responsibility in infection-related harm.This work is independent from my NHS and university roles. I understand my overriding duty to the Court and provide objective, impartial opinions within my area of expertise.
