About
Clinical Practice
I am a dual-accredited Consultant in Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases at the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust. My practice involves clinical advice on complex infections, interpretation of microbiological investigations and a specialist clinic for tuberculosis (TB) and non-tuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) disease. I also provide infection control advice and lead the Northern Ireland Mycobacterial Reference Laboratory.Academic and Research Background
I hold a PhD in Medical Microbiology from Queen's University Belfast and completed a research fellowship at Colorado State University (USA) in laboratory models of respiratory infection. I am an Honorary Lecturer in Medical Microbiology at Queen's University Belfast. While I practise across the breadth of clinical microbiology, my principal research interests are TB and NTM infections. My research spans regional epidemiology, laboratory modelling of host-pathogen interactions and clinical trials of new diagnostic tests.Expert Witness Approach
